Marina Novak | Mezzo-Soprano, Pianist & Vocal Pedagogue

Professional Summary

Marina Novak is an accomplished Ukrainian mezzo-soprano, opera soloist, chamber musician, and educator with an elite international stage presence spanning Europe and Asia. Renowned for her mastery of the bel canto technique, her expansive repertoire features cornerstone Italian and Russian operatic works, art songs, and symphonic literature. Parallel to her vocal career, she is an elite pianist rooted in the legendary Russian piano tradition. Currently based in China, she serves as a distinguished vocal and piano pedagogue at the prestigious Xinghai Conservatory of Music, where she trains international students and mentors next-generation, award-winning artists.

Born in Debrecen, Hungary, Marina Novak began her artistic journey as a prodigiously talented pianist. She pursued her advanced professional training in the historic cultural hub of Odessa, Ukraine. She entered the Piano Department of the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, studying under the revered Associate Professor Lyudmila Godyk. Novak graduated with a Specialist Degree in Piano Performance in 2000.
Through Professor Godyk, Novak’s pedagogical lineage directly connects to the foundational icons of the Russian piano school. Godyk’s lineage traces back to Seraphima Mogilevskaya, a direct disciple of Heinrich Gustavovich Neuhaus—the legendary former president of the Moscow Conservatory and mentor to masters like Radu Lupu and Emil Gilels.

Driven by a profound vocal calling, Novak seamlessly expanded her expertise at the A.V. Nezhdanova Odessa National Music Academy (Odessa Conservatory). She majored in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of two of Ukraine’s most legendary prima donnas and cultural icons: Alexandra Fomenko (People’s Artist of Ukraine) and Halina Polivanova (People’s Artist of Ukraine). She concluded her rigorous training with a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Music, cementing her rare dual-threat status as both a concert-level pianist and an elite opera singer.

Performance Career & International Stages

Novak launched her international stage career in 1998 in Nuremberg, Germany, delivering a critically acclaimed performance in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s sacred masterpiece, Stabat Mater.
Upon completing her postgraduate studies, she became a fixture of Ukraine’s professional classical music scene, holding major house appointments including:
  • Opera Soloist | Luhansk Opera House (2004–2005)
  • Resident Mezzo-Soprano Soloist | Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra (2005–2008)
Her performance career later expanded significantly into China, where she became a highly sought-after cultural ambassador and soloist. In 2018, by special invitation of the Heilongjiang Provincial Ministry of Culture, Novak collaborated with the Harbin Symphony Orchestra as the featured soloist, delivering a definitive rendition of Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise. In 2020, she captivated audiences with a critically acclaimed solo opera gala in Zhuhai. Her solo recitals have filled major Asian cultural landmarks, including the Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Huizhou, and Ningbo Opera Houses, as well as the prestigious Shenzhen Concert Hall.
